Par l\u2019\u00e9quipe du Trident<\/b><\/p>\n

Le NCSM <\/span>Charlottetown<\/span><\/i> a quitt\u00e9 Halifax pour participer \u00e0 son premier exercice d'envergure\navec son \u00e9quipe de commandement et son \u00e9quipage actuels. Il s'agit \u00e9galement de l'un des\nplus importants exercices de l'OTAN depuis pr\u00e8s de 35 ans.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Lors de l'exercice Steadfast Defender 2024, le NCSM <\/span>Charlottetown<\/span><\/i> se joindra \u00e0 environ 90 000\nsoldats des 31 pays membres de l'OTAN et de la Su\u00e8de. La participation du <\/span>Charlottetown<\/span><\/i> est\nd\u00e9crite comme faisant partie de la contribution maritime du Canada aux plans de dissuasion de\nl'OTAN visant \u00e0 contrer les menaces dans la r\u00e9gion euro-atlantique.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le Charlottetown sera l'un des quelque 50 navires de guerre participants, dont les navires du\n1er groupe maritime permanent de l'OTAN, ainsi que des groupes op\u00e9rationnels am\u00e9ricains et\nespagnols suppl\u00e9mentaires et un groupe d'attaque de porte-avions britannique.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Steadfast Defender 2024 repr\u00e9sente pour nous une occasion exceptionnelle de nous int\u00e9grer\n\u00e0 nos alli\u00e9s et d'op\u00e9rer avec eux \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le capitaine de fr\u00e9gate Nicholas Buxton,\ncommandant du NCSM Charlottetown. Il a ajout\u00e9 que l'exercice constituera une excellente\npr\u00e9paration au d\u00e9ploiement pr\u00e9vu du navire plus tard dans l'ann\u00e9e en tant que navire amiral du\n2e groupe maritime permanent de l'OTAN en M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e. <\/span>Charlottetown<\/span><\/i> Commanding Officer. He added the exercise will be great preparation for the ship\u2019s planned deployment later this year as the flagship for Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 in the Mediterranean Sea.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mais m\u00eame ceux qui ont une grande exp\u00e9rience de la mer trouvent de nouvelles opportunit\u00e9s\ndans la participation de Charlottetown \u00e0 l'exercice. Le premier ma\u00eetre de 2e classe Mike Banks,\nchef m\u00e9canicien du navire, a pass\u00e9 la majeure partie de sa carri\u00e8re sur la c\u00f4te ouest, et se dit\nenthousiaste \u00e0 l'id\u00e9e de travailler avec de nouveaux partenaires dans un nouvel environnement.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Ce sera mon premier grand d\u00e9ploiement avec un groupe op\u00e9rationnel de l'OTAN, et c'est ce\nque j'attends avec le plus d'impatience \u00bb, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/span>

\n<\/span>\u00ab C'est un environnement tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rent, et les pays avec lesquels nous travaillerons, ainsi que\nles alli\u00e9s au sein de l'OTAN, repr\u00e9sentent pour moi une facette nouvelle et int\u00e9ressante. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

L'exercice se d\u00e9roulera jusqu'en juin, en deux phases distinctes. Le NCSM Charlottetown\nparticipera \u00e0 la premi\u00e8re phase, qui sera principalement maritime et portera sur la d\u00e9fense des\n\neaux de l'Arctique et de l'Atlantique Nord. Selon un communiqu\u00e9 de presse de l'OTAN,\nl'exercice dans son int\u00e9gralit\u00e9 d\u00e9montrera la capacit\u00e9 de l'Alliance \u00e0 d\u00e9ployer rapidement des\nforces d'Am\u00e9rique du Nord et d'ailleurs pour d\u00e9fendre l'Europe, et s'\u00e9tendra sur des milliers de\nkilom\u00e8tres, de l'Arctique \u00e0 l'Europe centrale et orientale.<\/p>\n

Selon l'OTAN, le dernier exercice de l'Alliance d'une ampleur comparable a eu lieu en 1988,\nlorsqu'environ 125 000 personnes ont particip\u00e9 \u00e0 l'ancien exercice annuel Reforger.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le Charlottetown devrait \u00eatre d\u00e9ploy\u00e9 pendant environ sept semaines et retourner \u00e0 Halifax \u00e0 la\nmi-mars, lorsque la phase initiale de Steadfast Defender s'ach\u00e8vera.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
