Cette ann\u00e9e marque le 25e anniversaire du Programme des sentinelles du jour du Souvenir, qui reconna\u00eet publiquement des marins, des soldats, des aviateurs et des aviatrices exceptionnels des Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes (FAC), tant de la Force r\u00e9guli\u00e8re que de la Force de r\u00e9serve, ainsi que des agents de la Gendarmerie royale du Canada (GRC), pour leur d\u00e9vouement, leur professionnalisme et leur rendement au service du Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pour souligner cette \u00e9tape importante, le g\u00e9n\u00e9ral Wayne Eyre, chef d\u2019\u00e9tat major de la D\u00e9fense, a approuv\u00e9 l\u2019\u00e9largissement du programme. Le nombre de participants est pass\u00e9 de sept \u00e0 21, et il y aura d\u00e9sormais deux \u00e9quipes au lieu d\u2019une. Onze membres ont eu l\u2019honneur de se voir confier la t\u00e2che importante de monter la garde cette ann\u00e9e pendant la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie du jour du Souvenir au Monument comm\u00e9moratif de guerre du Canada, et dix autres participeront pour la premi\u00e8re fois \u00e0 la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie du jour du Souvenir qui se tiendra au cimeti\u00e8re militaire national de Beechwood.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l'\u00e9largissement de ce programme, les FAC sont en mesure de rendre hommage \u00e0 une s\u00e9lection plus inclusive de membres issus d\u2019un \u00e9ventail plus large de m\u00e9tiers diversifi\u00e9s. Parmi les nouveaux participants au programme, on compte une sentinelle des Rangers canadiens, un porteur du b\u00e2ton \u00e0 exploits et deux musiciens, soit un cornemuseur et un clairon.<\/span><\/p>\n

Les participants au programme ont eu le privil\u00e8ge d\u2019\u00eatre choisis parmi toutes les personnes dont la candidature a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle du pays, sur la base de crit\u00e8res comme l\u2019exp\u00e9rience de d\u00e9ploiement, l\u2019engagement communautaire, la forme physique et le dossier de conduite.<\/span><\/p>\n

Parmi les membres du personnel qui ont particip\u00e9 au programme 2023, le matelot de 1re classe Martin Joseph Chenier, du NCSM Charlottetown, a jou\u00e9 le r\u00f4le de sentinelle de la Marine royale du Canada au Monument comm\u00e9moratif de guerre du Canada, et le matelot-chef Emily Bellman, de la Musique Stadacona, a jou\u00e9 le r\u00f4le de clairon lors de la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie qui s'est d\u00e9roul\u00e9e au Cimeti\u00e8re militaire national.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le Programme des sentinelles du jour du Souvenir a \u00e9t\u00e9 mis sur pied en 1998 afin de reconna\u00eetre publiquement des marins, des soldats, des aviateurs et des aviatrices exemplaires de la Force r\u00e9guli\u00e8re et de la Force de r\u00e9serve des FAC, ainsi que des agents de la GRC. Cette ann\u00e9e, le programme a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9largi, et le nombre de participants choisis pour y participer passe de six membres des FAC et d\u2019un agent de la GRC \u00e0 19 membres des FAC et deux agents de la GRC, afin de mieux refl\u00e9ter la diversit\u00e9 de notre personnel militaire et de s\u00e9curit\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n
