Le tournoi de softball de l'Installation de maintenance de la flotte Cape Scott (IMFCS) a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 il y a 16 ans avec la ferme intention de rassembler les gens sur le lieu de travail. Aujourd'hui, il est devenu un moyen d'honorer les coll\u00e8gues que nous avons perdus en chemin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lorsque Matt Power a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 travailler dans les chantiers navals en 2005, il a rencontr\u00e9 un homme nomm\u00e9 Tom Doucet.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tom a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 travailler \u00e0 l\u2019IMFCS en m\u00eame temps que Matt, apr\u00e8s avoir travaill\u00e9 pendant 25 ans comme ouvrier de presse au Daily News. Tom passait la plupart de son temps \u00e0 la presse \u00e0 imprimer, travaillant de nuit, immergeant de gros rouleaux de papier dans l'encre et veillant au bon fonctionnement des machines.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tom \u00e9tait un homme gentil et franc. \u00ab Vous saviez toujours \u00e0 quoi vous en tenir, ce qui est une bonne chose pour un jeune homme qui se lance dans les m\u00e9tiers \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Matt.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Travaillant ensemble dans l'atelier de finition des m\u00e9taux, les deux hommes sont rapidement devenus des amis proches.<\/span><\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s quelques ann\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019IMFCS, Matt s'est associ\u00e9 \u00e0 quelques coll\u00e8gues et a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de lancer un tournoi de softball \u00e0 l\u2019IMFCS. Le softball a toujours occup\u00e9 une place importante dans la vie de Matt, qui a grandi en pratiquant ce sport avec sa femme depuis 23 ans.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Au coll\u00e8ge, mes amis et moi prenions nos bicyclettes \u00e0 p\u00e9dales pour nous rendre au terrain afin de lancer des pierres dans l'\u00e9tang, et je pouvais regarder ma petite amie jouer \u00e0 la balle \u00bb, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n

En tant que nouvel employ\u00e9, Matt a eu du mal \u00e0 nouer des liens avec les personnes des diff\u00e9rents m\u00e9tiers et services. Le tournoi de softball est devenu l'occasion id\u00e9ale de nouer des relations dans un environnement d\u00e9contract\u00e9. Mais lorsque Tom a \u00e9t\u00e9 diagnostiqu\u00e9 d'un cancer en 2011 et qu'il est d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9, le tournoi est devenu beaucoup plus important.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab \u00c0 partir de ce moment-l\u00e0, nous avons commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 organiser le tournoi de softball en sa m\u00e9moire \u00bb, explique Matt. \u00ab Il n'y a personne de mieux que lui pour donner un nom \u00e0 ce tournoi. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

Depuis, Matt aide \u00e0 organiser le tournoi chaque ann\u00e9e.<\/span><\/p>\n

Des \u00e9quipes de toute l'installation se r\u00e9unissent pour jouer pendant un week-end d'\u00e9t\u00e9. Cette ann\u00e9e, le tournoi a eu lieu le 10 septembre, et c'est l'\u00e9quipe du service de lutte contre les incendies qui a remport\u00e9 le troph\u00e9e. La journ\u00e9e comprend \u00e9galement un tournoi de coup de circuit organis\u00e9 en l'honneur d'un membre de l'\u00e9quipe d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 au cours de l'ann\u00e9e \u00e9coul\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019IMFCS. Cinquante pour cent des fonds du tournoi de coups de circuit sont directement vers\u00e9s \u00e0 la famille de la personne honor\u00e9e - cette ann\u00e9e, ils ont choisi d'honorerJohn McDonald du magasin de plaques.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Matt esp\u00e8re poursuivre le tournoi jusqu'\u00e0 sa retraite.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
