SOUMIS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3><b>L'h\u00e9ritage durable des anciens combattants amput\u00e9s de guerre canadiens<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Par Les Amput\u00e9s de guerre<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Au cours des guerres, d'innombrables soldats et infirmi\u00e8res canadiens ont fait preuve d'une bravoure extraordinaire et d'un d\u00e9vouement in\u00e9branlable, mettant leur vie en jeu pour notre pays. Nombre d'entre eux sont rentr\u00e9s chez eux en portant les profondes cicatrices physiques et \u00e9motionnelles de la guerre, ayant perdu des membres dans l'exercice de leurs fonctions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leurs exp\u00e9riences en tant qu'amput\u00e9s ont non seulement fa\u00e7onn\u00e9 leur propre vie mais, en tant que membres des Amput\u00e9s de guerre du Canada, ils ont laiss\u00e9 un h\u00e9ritage durable aux g\u00e9n\u00e9rations d'amput\u00e9s \u00e0 venir.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pendant la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale, Madeleine Jaffray (1889-1972) \u00e9tait infirmi\u00e8re dans un h\u00f4pital militaire pr\u00e8s de Bordeaux, en France. L'h\u00f4pital o\u00f9 elle travaillait a \u00e9t\u00e9 bombard\u00e9 par des aviateurs allemands et elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 bless\u00e9e au pied par un \u00e9clat d'obus provenant d'une des bombes. Sa blessure a entra\u00een\u00e9 une amputation, ce qui fait d'elle la seule femme canadienne amput\u00e9e de guerre de la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ce sont des amput\u00e9s comme Jaffray qui ont accueilli le nouveau contingent d'anciens combattants amput\u00e9s apr\u00e8s la Seconde Guerre mondiale, partageant avec eux tout ce qu'ils avaient appris.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L'un d'entre eux, Mike Krulicki (1925-2020), n'\u00e9tait qu'un adolescent lorsqu'il s'est port\u00e9 volontaire pour la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Il s'est enr\u00f4l\u00e9 dans le r\u00e9giment irlandais du Canada et, en 1944, alors qu'il participait \u00e0 la campagne d'Italie dans le cadre de l'attaque de la ligne Gothique, il a march\u00e9 sur une mine terrestre et a perdu sa jambe droite sous le genou.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arthur Johnson (1929-2006) est un autre ancien combattant. Il a servi dans la force sp\u00e9ciale de l'arm\u00e9e canadienne en tant que mortier au sein du r\u00e9giment royal du Canada et a rejoint 26 000 autres Canadiens dans la lutte pour la libert\u00e9 de la Cor\u00e9e du Sud. En ao\u00fbt 1952, il s'est retrouv\u00e9 sur la colline 355, pr\u00e8s de S\u00e9oul, au milieu d'un bombardement ennemi intense. Un mortier tomba \u00e0 proximit\u00e9, le blessant et entra\u00eenant la perte de sa jambe droite au-dessus du genou et des dommages \u00e0 son bras droit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unis par le lien commun de l'amputation, les amput\u00e9s de la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale, ainsi que ceux de la Seconde Guerre mondiale et de la guerre de Cor\u00e9e, ont jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le d\u00e9terminant pour faire progresser la technologie des proth\u00e8ses, lutter contre la stigmatisation du handicap, plaider en faveur de pensions \u00e9quitables pour les anciens combattants et s'apporter mutuellement un soutien indispensable.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rob Larman, conseiller principal aux Amput\u00e9s de guerre et lui-m\u00eame amput\u00e9 d'une jambe, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 : \"Ces personnes honorables ont consacr\u00e9 du temps \u00e0 diverses activit\u00e9s de l'association et ont partag\u00e9 leur exp\u00e9rience d'amput\u00e9s avec d'autres personnes, y compris des v\u00e9t\u00e9rans et des enfants d'aujourd'hui.
