Un aphorisme bien connu dit qu'une mar\u00e9e montante soul\u00e8ve tous les navires. Cela s'est av\u00e9r\u00e9 vrai le matin du 23 septembre au Coll\u00e8ge de la Garde c\u00f4ti\u00e8re canadienne \u00e0 Sydney, en Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse. Alors que la mar\u00e9e descendait lentement dans le port de Sydney et que la ros\u00e9e du matin scintillait sur le gazon fra\u00eechement tondu, trois \u00e9quipes se sont rassembl\u00e9es sur le terrain de balle. Repr\u00e9sentant respectivement la Marine royale canadienne (MRC), l'Arm\u00e9e canadienne (AC) et la Garde c\u00f4ti\u00e8re canadienne (GCC), les joueurs pr\u00e9sentaient un m\u00e9lange de niveaux de comp\u00e9tence, d'exp\u00e9riences et d'aptitudes, mais poss\u00e9daient tous le d\u00e9sir inn\u00e9 de nouer de nouvelles amiti\u00e9s par le biais du sport. Tel \u00e9tait l'objectif du deuxi\u00e8me tournoi annuel de balle lente des h\u00e9ros de la Garde c\u00f4ti\u00e8re, et l'\u00e9v\u00e9nement a atteint sa cible en plein dans le mille.<\/p>\n

La matin\u00e9e a commenc\u00e9 par un stage intensif de formation dirig\u00e9 par Sheldon Burke et Tim Fowler, v\u00e9t\u00e9rans de la CAF et membres actifs de la communaut\u00e9 de softball du Cap-Breton. Les joueurs ont am\u00e9lior\u00e9 leurs comp\u00e9tences de base, qu'il s'agisse des rudiments de l'attrap\u00e9 et du lancer ou des subtilit\u00e9s de la course sur la base et du suivi des balles volantes. \u00c0 ce moment-l\u00e0, la ros\u00e9e a c\u00e9d\u00e9 la place au soleil de midi qui tape fort. L'heure des jeux a sonn\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Le tournoi a officiellement d\u00e9but\u00e9 par deux \u00e9v\u00e9nements. Tout d'abord, la fanfare du Coll\u00e8ge des gardes-c\u00f4tes a entonn\u00e9 l'hymne national. Ensuite, l'arbitre a fait le tour du terrain, a vu que tous les joueurs \u00e9taient pr\u00eats, a point\u00e9 du doigt le lanceur et a prononc\u00e9 les mots suivants : \u00ab Jouez la balle ! \u00bb C'est avec grand plaisir que j'annonce que la MRC a remport\u00e9 le premier match contre la GCC, car ce fut la seule victoire de l'\u00e9quipe ce jour-l\u00e0. Apr\u00e8s une d\u00e9faite cuisante contre le AC, la MRC n'a pas acc\u00e9d\u00e9 au match de championnat. En fin de compte, c'est l'\u00e9quipe locale qui a remport\u00e9 la victoire, puisque la GCC a battu l'AC pour ramener le troph\u00e9e \u00e0 la maison.<\/p>\n

Quelle que soit l'issue du tournoi, ce sont les liens d'amiti\u00e9 et de confiance qui en sont ressortis. En cr\u00e9ant des opportunit\u00e9s par le biais du sport, des relations plus profondes se sont nou\u00e9es entre les agences intergouvernementales. L'\u00e9quipe de la MRC tient \u00e0 remercier le Coll\u00e8ge de la Garde c\u00f4ti\u00e8re canadienne pour son hospitalit\u00e9 sur le campus et les Programmes de soutien du personnel pour l'organisation du tournoi.
