Le 1er ao\u00fbt 2023, le minist\u00e8re de la D\u00e9fense nationale (MDN) et les Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes (FAC) ont tenu \u00e0 Halifax un \u00e9v\u00e9nement extraordinaire empreint de v\u00e9n\u00e9ration et d\u2019enthousiasme \u00e0 l\u2019occasion du Jour de l\u2019\u00e9mancipation. La comm\u00e9moration illustre les efforts continus d\u00e9ploy\u00e9s par le MDN dans le but de promouvoir la diversit\u00e9 et l\u2019inclusion, tout en rehaussant la sensibilisation \u00e0 notre histoire commune.<\/span><\/p>\n

Men\u00e9 par le commodore Jacques Olivier, champion de l\u2019\u00c9quipe de la D\u00e9fense pour les minorit\u00e9s visibles, avec l\u2019aide du major Ryan Carter, qui remplissait les fonctions de ma\u00eetre de c\u00e9r\u00e9monie, l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement en anglais et en fran\u00e7ais a \u00e9t\u00e9 diffus\u00e9 en direct par l\u2019interm\u00e9diaire de Microsoft Teams, atteignant un public de pr\u00e8s de 4 000 membres de l\u2019\u00c9quipe de la D\u00e9fense. Il mettait en vedette des conf\u00e9renciers inspirants et des num\u00e9ros culturels qui c\u00e9l\u00e9braient l\u2019histoire et les contributions des communaut\u00e9s noires et autochtones du Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le Jour de l\u2019\u00e9mancipation rev\u00eat une grande importance pour les Africains et les personnes de descendance africaine. Il comm\u00e9more l\u2019abolition de l\u2019esclavage dans l\u2019ensemble de l\u2019Empire britannique le 1er ao\u00fbt 1834, et constitue \u00e9galement un puissant symbole de libert\u00e9 et de r\u00e9silience. Pour bien des gens, cette journ\u00e9e nous rappelle avec \u00e9motion le combat historique men\u00e9 par les communaut\u00e9s noires et l\u2019esprit fort des personnes qui ont lutt\u00e9 infatigablement en vue de leur \u00e9mancipation. Ces derni\u00e8res ont ouvert la voie pour les g\u00e9n\u00e9rations futures, leur permettant ainsi de prosp\u00e9rer.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pendant l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement, les participants ont parl\u00e9 passionn\u00e9ment avec leur c\u0153ur, faisant conna\u00eetre leurs exp\u00e9riences personnelles et des r\u00e9cits qui soulignent davantage l\u2019incidence du Jour de l\u2019\u00e9mancipation sur chacun d\u2019eux. Les \u00e9motions dans la pi\u00e8ce \u00e9taient tangibles; les personnes pr\u00e9sentes se comprenaient intimement et reconnaissaient l\u2019incidence de cette occasion d\u2019une grande importance. Ensemble, elles ont v\u00e9cu un puissant moment de r\u00e9flexion, de c\u00e9l\u00e9bration et d\u2019autonomisation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Les copr\u00e9sidents du R\u00e9seau des employ\u00e9s noirs de l\u2019\u00c9quipe de la D\u00e9fense (RENED), Faduno Ali et le major Christopher Stobbs, \u00e9taient les visionnaires \u00e0 l\u2019origine de l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement. Depuis 2020, le RENED a accompli d\u2019importants progr\u00e8s dans la promotion du bien-\u00eatre et de la prosp\u00e9rit\u00e9 aupr\u00e8s des civils et des militaires noirs. L\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement a renforc\u00e9 davantage les efforts du RENED visant \u00e0 rassembler les membres noirs de l\u2019\u00c9quipe de la D\u00e9fense afin qu\u2019ils puissent \u00e9voquer leurs exp\u00e9riences, dans le but de donner lieu \u00e0 des actions concr\u00e8tes qui feront tomber les obstacles en milieu de travail auxquels font toujours face de nombreux employ\u00e9s noirs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

L\u2019\u00e9quipe du Chef \u2013 Conduite professionnelle et culture et la BFC Halifax, de concert avec Services publics et Approvisionnement Canada, ont offert l\u2019aide et le soutien n\u00e9cessaires pour que ce jour important se r\u00e9alise. Gr\u00e2ce au travail acharn\u00e9 et \u00e0 la passion de toutes les personnes qui y ont mis la main, l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement a produit un effet durable sur tous les participants.<\/span><\/p>\n

Puisque l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement s\u2019est d\u00e9roul\u00e9 \u00e0 Halifax, ville s\u2019inscrivant dans la riche histoire des personnes de descendance africaine, la c\u00e9l\u00e9bration du Jour de l\u2019\u00e9mancipation \u00e9tait d\u2019autant plus lourde de sens. Le patrimoine culturel de la ville, ainsi que l\u2019art et les contributions de ses communaut\u00e9s de descendance africaine ont \u00e9t\u00e9 mis en valeur, renfor\u00e7ant ainsi l\u2019importance de pr\u00e9server et de ch\u00e9rir les diverses traditions<\/span><\/p>\n

Pour conclure l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement, le commodore Olivier a prononc\u00e9 les paroles \u00e9mouvantes qui suivent :<\/span><\/p>\n
