C\u2019est compl\u00e8tement diff\u00e9rent. Tout le monde \u00e0 bord, moi y compris, doit apprendre \u00e0 conduire un si gros navire\u2009\u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le capitaine de fr\u00e9gate (capf) Guillaume C\u00f4t\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\" translation-block\">Pour le Capf C\u00f4t\u00e9, la conduite d\u2019un navire de la taille du NCSM Harry DeWolf n\u2019est pas une mince affaire. Davantage habitu\u00e9 aux fr\u00e9gates de la classe Halifax, le Capf C\u00f4t\u00e9 compare certains navires, comme les navires de d\u00e9fense c\u00f4ti\u00e8re de la classe Kingston, aux voitures de sport. En revanche, le NCSM Harry DeWolf, qui p\u00e8se environ 7\u2009000 tonnes et est \u00e9quip\u00e9 d\u2019un moteur diesel\u2011\u00e9lectrique, se compare plut\u00f4t \u00e0 un 18-roues.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cette r\u00e9alit\u00e9 nous force \u00e0 avoir plus de techniciens de marine (TECH MAR) \u00e0 bord, lesquels poss\u00e8dent, collectivement, la connaissance des m\u00e9tiers techniques de la marine et sont pr\u00eats \u00e0 relever de nouveaux d\u00e9fis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00ab\u2009Tout un processus de perfectionnement a \u00e9t\u00e9 mis en place pour modifier les comp\u00e9tences de chaque marin servant \u00e0 bord de ce navire. Ces derniers doivent prendre ce qu\u2019ils ont appris ou ce qu\u2019ils savent et l\u2019appliquer d\u2019une mani\u00e8re diff\u00e9rente.\u2009\u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la mi-juillet, l\u2019\u00e9quipage de 87 marins s\u2019est concentr\u00e9 uniquement sur l\u2019entra\u00eenement, l\u2019obtention de qualifications et l\u2019acquisition d\u2019exp\u00e9rience afin d\u2019\u00eatre le mieux pr\u00e9par\u00e9 possible pour les d\u00e9ploiements futurs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Malgr\u00e9 le temps long consacr\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019entra\u00eenement du personnel, le Capf C\u00f4t\u00e9 lui-m\u00eame se pr\u00e9pare \u00e0 la nouvelle aventure de la navigation dans l\u2019Arctique.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00ab\u2009C\u2019est un d\u00e9fi de taille que de naviguer aussi loin dans le Nord. Je ne sais pas trop comment m\u2019y pr\u00e9parer sur le plan \u00e9motionnel, psychologique et op\u00e9rationnel. Ce sera un changement de fond en comble\u2009\u00bb, a\u2011t\u2011il ajout\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\" translation-block\">Le prochain d\u00e9ploiement dans le cadre de l\u2019op\u00e9ration Nanook sera un exercice ax\u00e9 sur la souverainet\u00e9 du Canada dans la r\u00e9gion arctique. Il s\u2019agit d\u2019un effort conjoint coordonn\u00e9 avec nos partenaires nordiques dont le but est de r\u00e9gler les probl\u00e8mes de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 dans le Nord. Selon le Capf C\u00f4t\u00e9, le NCSM Harry DeWolf sera le seul navire de la Marine canadienne \u00e0 participer \u00e0 l\u2019op\u00e9ration cette ann\u00e9e. Il collaborera et effectuera des exercices avec la Garde c\u00f4ti\u00e8re canadienne, la Marine am\u00e9ricaine, la Garde c\u00f4ti\u00e8re am\u00e9ricaine et d\u2019autres partenaires \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle nationale et internationale afin de permettre \u00e0 la Marine de mieux mener des op\u00e9rations dans ce milieu particulier.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Le Capf C\u00f4t\u00e9 a \u00e9galement fait remarquer que cette op\u00e9ration \u00e9tait importante non seulement pour d\u00e9montrer la pr\u00e9sence du Canada dans nos eaux territoriales, mais aussi pour permettre aux marins de faire l\u2019exp\u00e9rience de la navigation dans l\u2019Arctique.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00ab\u2009La Marine royale canadienne (MRC) a une connaissance et une exp\u00e9rience limit\u00e9es de cette r\u00e9gion. Chaque fois que nous nous y rendons, nous apprenons de nouvelles choses\u2009\u00bb, a pr\u00e9cis\u00e9 le Capf C\u00f4t\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\" translation-block\">L\u2019importance de la pr\u00e9sence du NCSM Harry DeWolf dans des r\u00e9gions isol\u00e9es et des milieux naturels intacts n\u2019\u00e9chappe ni au commandant ni \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9quipage du navire. Le commandant a affirm\u00e9 que le changement climatique \u00e9tait au c\u0153ur des pr\u00e9occupations et qu\u2019ils \u00e9taient pr\u00eats \u00e0 respecter le mandat de la MRC, qui est de r\u00e9duire les r\u00e9percussions de ses activit\u00e9s sur l\u2019environnement.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00ab\u2009En raison du changement climatique, les choses \u00e9voluent constamment. Ce qui \u00e9tait autrefois de la roche n\u2019est plus que de la boue, les c\u00f4tes sont en proie \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9rosion, il y a donc un peu de travail d\u2019enqu\u00eate, mais nous sommes une unit\u00e9 autonome. Nous essayons de r\u00e9duire au minimum les r\u00e9percussions de nos activit\u00e9s sur les communaut\u00e9s locales et sur l\u2019environnement.\u2009\u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En d\u00e9pit des d\u00e9fis qu\u2019ils doivent relever dans le cadre de l\u2019op\u00e9ration Nanook, le Capf C\u00f4t\u00e9 se dit impatient de prendre la mer avec son
