Un marin local se dit fier de son h\u00e9ritage, de sa culture et de sa carri\u00e8re militaire apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 charg\u00e9 de porter le b\u00e2ton de l'exploit du MDN et des FAC lors des c\u00e9r\u00e9monies d'ouverture des Jeux autochtones de l'Am\u00e9rique du Nord (JAAN) qui se sont d\u00e9roul\u00e9s r\u00e9cemment \u00e0 Halifax.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Le M 2 Arnold Stewart, citoyen de la nation Nisga'a de la Colombie-Britannique, est le gardien d\u00e9sign\u00e9 du b\u00e2ton de l'aigle, qui est un symbole itin\u00e9rant de l'unit\u00e9 entre tous les membres autochtones des FAC. \u00c9tant l'un des rares \u00e0 avoir re\u00e7u l'enseignement et les conseils n\u00e9cessaires pour porter le b\u00e2ton, il s'est port\u00e9 volontaire pour aider \u00e0 diriger le d\u00e9fil\u00e9 d'ouverture et repr\u00e9senter les FAC le 16 juillet.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Ce fut une exp\u00e9rience extraordinaire. Mon c\u0153ur \u00e9tait rempli de chaleur et de fiert\u00e9 d'\u00eatre l\u00e0 avec tant de personnes diff\u00e9rentes, toutes issues de la communaut\u00e9 autochtone d'Am\u00e9rique du Nord. C'\u00e9tait formidable de voir tous ces visages souriants \u00bb, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n

La semaine a permis au M 2 Stewart de faire le tour de la question, et il a ajout\u00e9 qu'il \u00e9tait particuli\u00e8rement ravi d'\u00eatre \u00e0 nouveau associ\u00e9 aux JAAN apr\u00e8s y avoir particip\u00e9 lui-m\u00eame en tant qu'athl\u00e8te en 1995, remportant une m\u00e9daille d'argent en basket-ball. Cette fois-ci, c'est son fils qui \u00e9tait sur le terrain, en tant que membre de l'\u00e9quipe de basket-ball U16 de la Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse. Les parents du M 2 Stewart ont pris l'avion pour Halifax afin de voir leur petit-fils jouer, ce qui a donn\u00e9 lieu \u00e0 une semaine riche en signification pour lui et sa famille.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab C'\u00e9tait sp\u00e9cial de partager cela. Je n'aurais pas pu \u00eatre plus fier en tant que p\u00e8re que lorsque je le regardais sur le terrain \u00bb, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Et les Jeux eux-m\u00eames ont \u00e9t\u00e9 une excellente semaine dans l'ensemble, nous avons assist\u00e9 \u00e0 certaines comp\u00e9titions et vu beaucoup de bons talents.<\/span><\/p>\n

Plus de soutien de la CAF \u00e0 la JAAN<\/b><\/p>\n

Le M 2 Stewart a pris cong\u00e9 la semaine des Jeux pour profiter de sa famille ; autrement, il aurait probablement particip\u00e9 aux JAAN \u00e0 un autre titre. Son lieu de travail, l'\u00c9cole navale (Atlantique), a particip\u00e9 \u00e0 la comp\u00e9tition de tir des JAAN au champ de tir de Bedford, avec des membres du 36e Groupe-brigade du Canada et d'autres unit\u00e9s locales.<\/span><\/p>\n

Les athl\u00e8tes des JAAN \u00e9taient sur place du 16 au 21 juillet, et les membres des FAC ont jou\u00e9 plusieurs r\u00f4les, notamment celui d'officier de commandement, de chef de champ de tir, d'agents de s\u00e9curit\u00e9, de gardien d'armes l\u00e9g\u00e8res et de gardien de munitions, ainsi que d'autres personnes qui ont assur\u00e9 la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 du site, aid\u00e9 \u00e0 escorter les participants sur le site et effectu\u00e9 d'autres t\u00e2ches selon les besoins.<\/span><\/p>\n

En plus de jouer un r\u00f4le dans les c\u00e9r\u00e9monies d'ouverture et de cl\u00f4ture et dans la comp\u00e9tition de tir, les FAC ont \u00e9galement invit\u00e9 les athl\u00e8tes, les b\u00e9n\u00e9voles, les entra\u00eeneurs et les familles des JAAN \u00e0 l'arsenal CSM pour une journ\u00e9e portes ouvertes le 20 juillet, avec des visites du navire, des promenades en RHIB, des expositions informatives, et plus encore.<\/span><\/p>\n
