La 12e Escadre Shearwater a officiellement accueilli son nouveau commandant, le Colonel David Holmes Holmes, qui a pris ses fonctions le 11 juillet. Pour marquer l'occasion, une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de passation de commandement a eu lieu dans le hangar du 423e Escadron d'h\u00e9licopt\u00e8res maritimes.<\/p>\n

Le Col Holmes n'est pas un nouveau venu dans la 12e Escadre. C'est un ancien pilote de Sea King qui a pass\u00e9 du temps en mer avec les NCSM Halifax, Fredericton et St. John's et, en 2011, comme commandant du d\u00e9tachement a\u00e9rien avec le NCSM Charlottetown pendant les op\u00e9rations Metric et Artemis. Il a \u00e9galement occup\u00e9 divers postes de formation et d'\u00e9valuation et est revenu \u00e0 l'escadre en tant que commandant du 423e Escadron de 2014 \u00e0 2016.<\/p>\n

Toutefois, il n'a pas manqu\u00e9 de mentionner les changements importants apport\u00e9s \u00e0 la 12e Escadre qu'il a remarqu\u00e9s lors de son dernier retour, en particulier le CH-148 Cyclone :<\/p>\n

\u00ab L'escadre a clairement fait un bond en avant pendant mon absence et je m'engage \u00e0 apprendre et \u00e0 comprendre ce syst\u00e8me d'arme et son importance, pour chacun d'entre vous et pour la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 mondiale. Je consid\u00e8re que cela fait partie int\u00e9grante de mon leadership et de mon service \u00e0 votre \u00e9gard. \u00bb<\/p>\n

S'agissant de ce qu'il apporterait en tant que commandant de la 12e escadre, le colonel Holmes a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 : \u00ab Je m'engage \u00e0 partager mon exp\u00e9rience, mon d\u00e9vouement, ma patience, mon honneur et mon expertise. Alors que j'entre dans ce r\u00f4le, je dois exprimer ma gratitude au colonel MacNamara pour les solides fondations qu'il a construites.<\/p>\n

Pour commencer l'\u00e9v\u00e9nement, une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de purification a \u00e9t\u00e9 organis\u00e9e par Debbie Eisan, a\u00een\u00e9e et capitaine de vaisseau honoraire, qui a expliqu\u00e9 la tradition de la purification du corps, la promotion de la gu\u00e9rison et l'\u00e9limination des pens\u00e9es n\u00e9gatives.<\/span><\/p>\n

La passation de commandement s'est d\u00e9roul\u00e9e par une journ\u00e9e pluvieuse, brumeuse et venteuse et, selon le brigadier-g\u00e9n\u00e9ral Sid Connor, l'officier charg\u00e9 de la r\u00e9vision de la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie, \u00ab c'est le genre de temps dans lequel la 12e Escadre op\u00e8re \u00e0 la maison et assez souvent \u00e0 bord des navires. Il est donc tout \u00e0 fait appropri\u00e9 que nous ayons ce type de temps. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Le Bg\u00e9n Connor, actuellement commandant adjoint de la g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de forces au QG de la 1re Division a\u00e9rienne du Canada \u00e0 Winnipeg, a r\u00e9cemment occup\u00e9 le poste de commandant de la 12e Escadre jusqu'en 2019. Il a exprim\u00e9 sa gratitude envers le commandant sortant, le colonel Patrick MacNamara, pour les deux derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es qu'il a pass\u00e9es au service de l'escadre. Il a \u00e9galement mentionn\u00e9 comment, sous sa direction, \u00ab les capacit\u00e9s de l'a\u00e9ronef ont \u00e9t\u00e9 am\u00e9lior\u00e9es \u00bb, en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence au Cyclone, et \u00ab l'accomplissement des missions s'est accru. \u00bb En outre, le bg\u00e9n Connor a f\u00e9licit\u00e9 le colonel Holmes pour sa s\u00e9lection en tant que commandant.<\/p>\n

Le colonel MacNamara a exprim\u00e9 son appr\u00e9ciation et sa fiert\u00e9 d'avoir eu l'occasion de travailler aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de cette \u00e9quipe impressionnante qui, en tant qu'unit\u00e9, a remport\u00e9 de nombreux succ\u00e8s au cours des deux derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es. Il a notamment salu\u00e9 l'adjudant-chef Kevin Wezenbeek et l'adjudant-chef Bruno Poirie, avec lesquels il a \u00e9galement travaill\u00e9 pendant son mandat.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Nous avons obtenu une augmentation notable de l'aptitude au service en mer et nous avons investi massivement dans la maintenance et l'acquisition d'exp\u00e9rience, la planification de la maintenance, les capacit\u00e9s et la formation. Aucune de ces r\u00e9alisations ne peut sembler remarquable individuellement, mais dans l'ensemble, elles repr\u00e9sentent une \u00e9tape importante dans la construction d'un cycle de capacit\u00e9 op\u00e9rationnelle plus robuste et plus r\u00e9silient \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le colonel MacNamara.<\/p>\n

Le colonel MacNamara, le bg\u00e9n Connor et le colonel Holmes ont tous \u00e9voqu\u00e9 l'\u00e9volution constante de l'environnement qui, selon eux, a rendu la 12e Escadre plus essentielle aujourd'hui que jamais, et la mani\u00e8re dont cette importance est susceptible de continuer \u00e0 cro\u00eetre. Actuellement, la Chine et la Russie sont des forces importantes qui \u00ab sapent les fondements d'un ordre international fond\u00e9 sur des r\u00e8gles \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le colonel Holmes. La coercition \u00e9conomique exerc\u00e9e par la Chine en Afrique, les tentatives de la Chine d'affirmer ses revendications sur la mer de Chine m\u00e9ridionale et l'invasion de l'Ukraine par la Russie sont autant d'illustrations modernes de cette menace.<\/span><\/p>\n
