Tout au long de ses 40 ans de carri\u00e8re dans la R\u00e9serve navale, le premier ma\u00eetre de 1re classe (\u00e0 la retraite) David Hutt affirme qu'il a toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 inspir\u00e9 par le service des anciens combattants canadiens et qu'il leur en est reconnaissant.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aussi, lorsque l'occasion s'est pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e de participer \u00e0 la prochaine Marche pour le souvenir et la paix, une marche de 20 jours destin\u00e9e \u00e0 comm\u00e9morer ceux qui ont combattu et sont morts lors de l'invasion de la Sicile par les Alli\u00e9s au cours de l'\u00e9t\u00e9 1943, il a saut\u00e9 sur l'occasion.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Je crois sinc\u00e8rement que les anciens combattants ont tout fait pour nous et que nous ne serions pas l\u00e0 o\u00f9 nous sommes aujourd'hui sans eux. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Il s'agit de se souvenir des Canadiens qui sont morts l\u00e0-bas et de c\u00e9l\u00e9brer la paix entre les deux pays. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

L'op\u00e9ration Husky, comme on l'appelait, a d\u00e9but\u00e9 le 10 juillet 1943 avec le d\u00e9barquement des Alli\u00e9s sur l'\u00eele italienne. Lorsque la Sicile a \u00e9t\u00e9 captur\u00e9e un mois plus tard, plus de 2 300 Canadiens ont \u00e9t\u00e9 tu\u00e9s, dont plus de 560 ont perdu la vie. Des milliers d'autres Canadiens ont \u00e9galement contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 la reconstruction de la Sicile apr\u00e8s la campagne.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Lors de la prochaine marche comm\u00e9morative, un groupe de 27 Canadiens parcourra 325 kilom\u00e8tres en 20 jours, en suivant le chemin emprunt\u00e9 par les soldats canadiens en Sicile. Il est pr\u00e9vu de placer un marqueur le long du chemin, pr\u00e8s de l'endroit o\u00f9 chaque Canadien est mort, chaque marqueur indiquant le nom du soldat, son grade et son r\u00e9giment.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le Col honoraire de l'arm\u00e9e Steve Gregory est \u00e0 l'origine de cet \u00e9v\u00e9nement, et M. Hutt explique qu'il a \u00e9t\u00e9 recrut\u00e9 par un ami qui avait particip\u00e9 \u00e0 l'\u00e9v\u00e9nement en 2013.<\/span><\/p>\n

Il ne s'agit pas d'un voyage d'agr\u00e9ment : m\u00eame si l'on n'attend pas de chaque participant qu'il parcourt la totalit\u00e9 des 325 km, on lui demande de s'entra\u00eener \u00e0 l'avance et d'\u00eatre pr\u00eat \u00e0 marcher 20 km pendant trois jours d'affil\u00e9e. La camaraderie qui r\u00e8gne au sein du groupe de marcheurs, ainsi que les encouragements du public lorsqu'ils s'arr\u00eateront dans diff\u00e9rentes villes et sur diff\u00e9rents sites pour des \u00e9v\u00e9nements comm\u00e9moratifs, devraient toutefois stimuler l'esprit des participants, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 M. Hutt. La marche a d\u00e9j\u00e0 eu lieu deux fois, en 2013 et en 2018, \u00e0 l'occasion des 70e et 75e anniversaires de la campagne, et les \u00e9quipes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 chaleureusement accueillies, avec des foules \u00e0 certaines \u00e9tapes.<\/span><\/p>\n
