Comme elle l'a fait \u00e0 maintes reprises au cours de ses 35 ans de carri\u00e8re dans la marine, la Contre-amiral Jos\u00e9e Kurtz a ouvert une nouvelle voie pour les femmes dans la Marine royale du Canada le 20 juin \u00e0 Halifax. Le Cam Kurtz a \u00e9t\u00e9 officiellement nomm\u00e9e commandant des Forces maritimes de l'Atlantique et de la Force op\u00e9rationnelle interarm\u00e9es de l'Atlantique au cours d'une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de passation de commandement qui s'est d\u00e9roul\u00e9e sur la plus r\u00e9cente jet\u00e9e de la base, avec le NCSM <\/span>Margaret Brooke<\/span><\/i> en toile de fond.<\/span>

\n<\/span>C'est avec beaucoup d'humilit\u00e9 que je saisis l'occasion qui m'est offerte et je suis extr\u00eamement enthousiaste \u00e0 l'id\u00e9e de rejoindre l'\u00e9quipe de la d\u00e9fense ici sur la c\u00f4te Est \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 la Cam Kurtz, qui commandait derni\u00e8rement le Coll\u00e8ge militaire royal du Canada \u00e0 Kingston, en Ontario. Elle a \u00e9galement command\u00e9 le NCSM <\/span>Halifax<\/span><\/i> de 2009 \u00e0 2011, l'ancienne \u00c9cole des op\u00e9rations navales des Forces canadiennes de 2011 \u00e0 2012 et le 2e Groupe de la Force navale permanente de l'OTAN en 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

S'adressant aux membres de la Formation Halifax pour la premi\u00e8re fois apr\u00e8s sa prise de commandement, la Cam Kurtz a mis l'accent sur les r\u00e9alisations de l'\u00e9quipe qu'elle dirigera d\u00e9sormais. Elle a mentionn\u00e9 le NCSM Fredericton, actuellement en M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e, les op\u00e9rations r\u00e9centes du NCSM Montr\u00e9al et du URN Asterix dans l'Indo-Pacifique, et le prochain d\u00e9ploiement de contre-mesures de mines de l'OTAN pour le NCSM Summerside et le NCSM Shawinigan comme exemples de la contribution de la flotte de la c\u00f4te est dans des r\u00f4les cl\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Le contexte g\u00e9opolitique \u00e9volue rapidement et exige que les forces navales soient pr\u00eates \u00e0 prot\u00e9ger l'ordre international fond\u00e9 sur des r\u00e8gles. Face \u00e0 l'agression russe et \u00e0 l'expansionnisme chinois, le Canada continue de maintenir une pr\u00e9sence navale stable dans ces r\u00e9gions g\u00e9ographiques tendues \u00bb, a-t-elle d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Ce commandement est vraiment unique en termes de fonctions combin\u00e9es de g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de forces et d'emploi des forces, qui sont toutes deux cruciales pour que la marine continue \u00e0 remplir ces missions. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

La Cam Kurtz a \u00e9galement pris le temps de souligner l'importance du fait qu'une femme dirige une formation de la MRC et si\u00e8ge pour la premi\u00e8re fois au conseil de l'amiral. Elle a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 qu'elle estimait avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9e \u00e0 ce poste en raison du leadership, de la comp\u00e9tence et du caract\u00e8re dont elle a fait preuve tout au long de sa carri\u00e8re, ce qui montre qu'il n'y a pas de plafond pour les membres de la MRC ou des FAC et que chacun a sa place au sein de l'organisation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le nouveau commandant succ\u00e8de au contre-amiral Brian Santarpia, qui a pris ses fonctions en juin 2020. En raison du calendrier, la premi\u00e8re partie de son mandat a \u00e9t\u00e9 consacr\u00e9e au maintien op\u00e9rationnel de l'\u00e9quipe pendant les premiers jours de la pand\u00e9mie de COVID-19.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Tout le monde s'est investi et a travaill\u00e9 dur, nous avions une \u00e9quipe incroyable pour traverser cette p\u00e9riode, et nous nous sommes remis au travail de mani\u00e8re \u00e0 assurer la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 de tous \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le Cam Santarpia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Il a remerci\u00e9 une longue liste de personnes et de groupes qui l'ont soutenu pendant son mandat au sein des FMAR(A), qu'il s'agisse de repr\u00e9sentants du gouvernement, de groupes communautaires, de partenaires de l'industrie ou de coll\u00e8gues des FAC, y compris un certain nombre d'anciens amiraux et d'officiers du drapeau qui \u00e9taient pr\u00e9sents pour l'occasion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Il a salu\u00e9 tout particuli\u00e8rement le capitaine de vaisseau honoraire Debbie Eisan pour sa participation continue aux efforts de r\u00e9conciliation des FAC dans la r\u00e9gion de l'Atlantique, ainsi que l'\u00e9quipe des FMAR(A) charg\u00e9e de la diversit\u00e9 et de l'inclusion, qui a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le de chef de file local \u00e0 une \u00e9poque o\u00f9 le MDN \u00e9tait confront\u00e9 \u00e0 des crises et tentait maintenant d'apporter des changements positifs \u00e0 sa culture.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le vice-amiral Angus Topshee a pr\u00e9sid\u00e9 la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de passation de commandement en tant que commandant de la MRC, avec le Cam Bob Auchterlonie, commandant de la FOIA. Le Vam Topshee a d\u00e9crit le Cam Santarpia comme \u00ab l'un des meilleurs planificateurs op\u00e9rationnels et tacticiens que la Marine royale canadienne ait jamais produit \u00bb, et a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que ces comp\u00e9tences ont permis \u00e0 la formation d'accepter trois nouveaux navires de patrouille extrac\u00f4tier et de l\u2019Arctique au cours de son mandat de trois ans, tout en continuant \u00e0 g\u00e9rer durablement la flotte de classe Halifax et \u00e0 soutenir les op\u00e9rations dans le monde entier.<\/span><\/p>\n

En accueillant la nouvelle amirale de la marine dans ses nouvelles fonctions, le Vam Topshee a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 qu'il avait toute confiance en l'amirale Kurtz, qui assume sa plus grande responsabilit\u00e9 \u00e0 ce jour. Il a ajout\u00e9 qu'il \u00e9tait heureux de constater que la marine comptait d\u00e9sormais un certain nombre de femmes \u00e0 des postes de commandement dans tout le pays, puisque c'est la premi\u00e8re femme \u00e0 atteindre ce niveau au sein de l'institution.<\/span><\/p>\n
