Vingt-cinq r\u00e9servistes de la Marine de partout au Canada se sont r\u00e9unis \u00e0 Liverpool, au Royaume-Uni, pour repr\u00e9senter la Marine royale canadienne (MRC) et c\u00e9l\u00e9brer le 80e anniversaire de la bataille de l\u2019Atlantique, du 26 au 28 mai.<\/span><\/p>\n

La bataille de l\u2019Atlantique a \u00e9t\u00e9 la plus longue bataille continue de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, et a dur\u00e9 en tout 2 075 jours.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le moment o\u00f9 \u00ab le vent a tourn\u00e9 \u00bb durant la bataille en 1943 \u2014 lorsque les forces alli\u00e9es ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 vaincre les puissances de l\u2019Axe \u2014 a \u00e9t\u00e9 comm\u00e9mor\u00e9 par un militaire repr\u00e9sentant chaque division de la R\u00e9serve navale de la MRC et un militaire du quartier g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de la R\u00e9serve navale \u00e0 Qu\u00e9bec. La R\u00e9serve navale de la MRC c\u00e9l\u00e8bre son centenaire cette ann\u00e9e.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lorsque le groupe est apparu en public ou pendant le d\u00e9fil\u00e9, l\u2019\u00e9quipe a \u00e9t\u00e9 accueillie chaleureusement par des signes de la main, des cris \u00ab H\u00e9 le Canada! \u00bb et m\u00eame des applaudissements.<\/span><\/p>\n

La matelot de 1re classe (Mat 1) Nicole Tran, d\u2019Ottawa, \u00e9tait l\u2019un des marins choisis pour repr\u00e9senter le Canada \u00e0 cette occasion.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Ce fut un honneur d\u2019\u00eatre choisie par le Navire canadien de Sa Majest\u00e9 Carleton pour assister \u00e0 cette activit\u00e9. J\u2019\u00e9tais tr\u00e8s reconnaissante, mais je me sentais \u00e9galement responsable de bien repr\u00e9senter le Canada, a-t-elle d\u00e9clar\u00e9. Lorsque les foules nous ont acclam\u00e9s pendant le d\u00e9fil\u00e9, elles ont montr\u00e9 leur reconnaissance pour ce que le Canada avait fait pour les aider pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. \u00bb\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Depuis que j\u2019ai quitt\u00e9 le Vietnam pour immigrer au Canada en 2008, je n\u2019ai jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 aussi fi\u00e8re d\u2019\u00eatre Canadienne \u00bb, a ajout\u00e9 la Mat 1 Tran.<\/span><\/p>\n

Les r\u00e9servistes ont assist\u00e9 \u00e0 des s\u00e9ances d\u2019information et \u00e0 des visites des installations de la Royal Navy \u00e0 Liverpool et \u00e0 Portsmouth, et ont visit\u00e9 le Western Approaches Museum pour voir le centre des op\u00e9rations de la Seconde Guerre mondiale et en apprendre sur les tactiques et les strat\u00e9gies qui ont permis aux forces alli\u00e9es de remporter la bataille.<\/span><\/p>\n

La bataille de l\u2019Atlantique, qui s\u2019est d\u00e9roul\u00e9e dans l\u2019environnement difficile de l\u2019Atlantique Nord, a oppos\u00e9 les forces navales et a\u00e9riennes alli\u00e9es aux sous-marins, navires et a\u00e9ronefs allemands et italiens. L\u2019ennemi avait pour cible principale les convois de navires marchands qui transportaient des cargaisons essentielles au maintien de la vie de l\u2019Am\u00e9rique du Nord \u00e0 l\u2019Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le commodore Patrick Montgomery, commandant de la R\u00e9serve navale, \u00e9tait l\u2019officier sup\u00e9rieur canadien pr\u00e9sent \u00e0 la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00ab Il est tr\u00e8s appropri\u00e9 que le 80e anniversaire de la bataille de l\u2019Atlantique co\u00efncide avec le 100e anniversaire de la R\u00e9serve navale du Canada, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le commodore Montgomery. La Marine royale du Canada a perdu 2 210 personnes au cours de la bataille de l\u2019Atlantique, et la majorit\u00e9 d\u2019entre eux \u00e9taient des r\u00e9servistes. Cette bataille a \u00e9t\u00e9 essentielle pour maintenir les lignes de ravitaillement ouvertes et a ouvert la voie \u00e0 la victoire finale des Alli\u00e9s lors de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

Au cours de la bataille de l\u2019Atlantique, la MRC a d\u00e9truit ou particip\u00e9 \u00e0 la destruction de 33 sous-marins allemands et de 42 navires de surface ennemis.<\/span><\/p>\n

Durant cette bataille, la Marine a perdu 33 navires.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le patrimoine de la bataille de l\u2019Atlantique et les souvenirs de ceux qui ont combattu ne seront pas att\u00e9nu\u00e9s ou oubli\u00e9s par les ann\u00e9es qui passent.<\/span><\/p>\n
