C'est la cinqui\u00e8me ann\u00e9e cons\u00e9cutive que l'EM Chris Richards dirige une \u00e9quipe de la FAC pour la marche, et c'est la quatri\u00e8me ann\u00e9e qu'il le fait avec le MV Asterix. LA MAT 1 TAYLOR CONGDON<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Les camps d'\u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9gionaux, les programmes parascolaires, les services d'aide \u00e0 l'emploi, les services d'aide aux familles et les services d'aide aux autistes de l'enseignement post-secondaire ne sont que quelques-uns des programmes qu'Autism Nova Scotia propose aux personnes atteintes du spectre autistique et \u00e0 leurs familles dans toute la province. L'une des plus importantes collectes de fonds organis\u00e9es chaque ann\u00e9e est la marche annuelle \u00ab Walk Your Way for Autism. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

Ma premi\u00e8re marche a eu lieu en 2019, \u00e0 Odessa, en Ukraine, avec l'\u00e9quipage du NCSM Toronto derri\u00e8re moi. Mon objectif \u00e9tait de collecter des fonds indispensables pour Autism Nova Scotia, mais aussi de sensibiliser les militaires susceptibles d'\u00eatre touch\u00e9s par l'autisme dans leur propre famille. L'une des plus grandes formes d'aide au sein de la communaut\u00e9 de l'autisme est de savoir qu'il y a d'autres personnes qui vivent les m\u00eames types de d\u00e9fis que vous. Au minimum, c'est formidable d'avoir quelqu'un d'autre qui comprend la langue. Cette ann\u00e9e-l\u00e0, nous avions une \u00e9quipe compos\u00e9e de pr\u00e8s de la moiti\u00e9 de l'\u00e9quipage du navire, et presque toutes les personnes qui ont fait un don ou qui ont march\u00e9 avaient un ami, un voisin ou un membre de leur famille qui \u00e9tait autiste.<\/p>\n

Depuis cette marche, je n'ai cess\u00e9 d'\u00eatre b\u00e9ni par mon unit\u00e9 actuelle, l'unit\u00e9 de ravitaillement naval Ast\u00e9rix. Bien que la pand\u00e9mie ait quelque peu frein\u00e9 la premi\u00e8re marche d'Ast\u00e9rix en 2020, parce que nous n'\u00e9tions pas autoris\u00e9s \u00e0 d\u00e9barquer au Royaume-Uni, nous avons tout de m\u00eame r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 collecter environ 1 500 dollars et \u00e0 parcourir 5 kilom\u00e8tres autour du pont d'envol. En 2021, nous \u00e9tions chez nous, \u00e0 Halifax, et notre \u00e9quipage, militaire et civil, a pu marcher avec nos familles dans nos propres quartiers. Puis, en 2022, nous avons organis\u00e9 notre marche \u00e0 Norfolk, en Virginie. Malheureusement, la marche de Halifax a d\u00fb \u00eatre annul\u00e9e \u00e0 cause de l'ouragan Fiona, et nous avons donc pris la responsabilit\u00e9 d'\u00eatre la seule \u00e9quipe inscrite \u00e0 la HRM \u00e0 pouvoir organiser notre marche. Nous avons parcouru le front de mer et le centre-ville de Norfolk avec le c\u0153ur pur des N\u00e9o-\u00c9cossais.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cette ann\u00e9e \u00e9tait particuli\u00e8re, car elle marquait ma cinqui\u00e8me ann\u00e9e en tant que capitaine d'\u00e9quipe. Comme Ast\u00e9rix \u00e9tait d\u00e9ploy\u00e9 dans le cadre de l'op\u00e9ration Projection et devait traverser le Suez et l'Indo-Pacifique avant de revenir \u00e0 Esquimalt, en Colombie-Britannique, j'esp\u00e9rais organiser notre marche dans l'un des nombreux et magnifiques ports d'Asie. Je n'aurais pas pu \u00eatre plus heureux du r\u00e9sultat final.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pour la marche de groupe de cette ann\u00e9e, nous nous sommes rendus dans le parc national de Saikai \u00e0 Sasebo, au Japon. Bien que l'itin\u00e9raire initial de la marche ait \u00e9t\u00e9 assez court, le parc offrait un certain nombre de sentiers \u00e0 explorer, et nous les avons explor\u00e9s. Entre les habitants qui profitent du parc, la flore et la faune que nous avons trouv\u00e9es autour des criques, des piscines et des sentiers du parc, et le simple fait de d\u00e9couvrir quelques-uns des plus beaux sites que Sasebo a \u00e0 offrir, notre \u00e9quipe de marcheurs a pass\u00e9 un tr\u00e8s bon moment. Ceux qui n'ont pas pu se joindre \u00e0 nous pour la marche en groupe ont profit\u00e9 de l'occasion pour porter fi\u00e8rement le maillot de leur \u00e9quipe en explorant la ville de Sasebo et toutes les diff\u00e9rentes choses \u00e0 faire. En fin de compte, Ast\u00e9rix a r\u00e9colt\u00e9 plus de 2 500 dollars, ce qui porte mon total personnel \u00e0 plus de 12 000 dollars pour les cinq derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es.<\/span><\/p>\n

Un grand merci aux \u00e9quipages civils et des FAC d'Ast\u00e9rix, ainsi qu'\u00e0 tous les membres de l'\u00e9quipage du d\u00e9ploiement 2019 de l'op\u00e9ration de r\u00e9assurance du NCSM Toronto, sans qui cette collecte de fonds n'aurait pas \u00e9t\u00e9 aussi fructueuse qu'elle l'a \u00e9t\u00e9. Je remercie \u00e9galement tous ceux qui, au cours des cinq derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, m'ont aid\u00e9 \u00e0 organiser nos marches. J'appr\u00e9cie \u00e9galement beaucoup ceux qui, m\u00eame s'ils n'ont pas pu venir marcher avec nous, ont tout de m\u00eame pris la peine de faire un don et de soutenir l'\u00e9quipe lorsqu'ils le pouvaient en aidant \u00e0 l'organisation ou en distribuant des maillots.
