Le NCSM Edmonton a effectu\u00e9 des exercices maritimes de plusieurs jours alors qu'il \u00e9tait d\u00e9ploy\u00e9 dans le cadre de l'op\u00e9ration Carribe en mars, dans le cadre de l'Initiative de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 maritime de l'Am\u00e9rique du Nord (NAMSI).<\/p>\n

Les exercices comprenaient un exercice d'interdiction coordonn\u00e9 impliquant des navires, des avions et du personnel de la marine royale canadienne (MRC), de la marine mexicaine, de la marine am\u00e9ricaine et de la garde c\u00f4ti\u00e8re am\u00e9ricaine.<\/p>\n

\u00ab C'est l'occasion de rencontrer d'autres marines et d'instaurer un climat de confiance \u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le capitaine de corvette Tyler Smith, commandant de l'Edmonton. \u00ab On se rend compte de tout ce qu'on peut offrir en termes de travail d'\u00e9quipe, de coop\u00e9ration et d'apprentissage mutuel. \u00bb<\/p>\n

NAMSI est un effort multinational entre le Canada, les \u00c9tats-Unis et le Mexique pour renforcer leurs relations en mati\u00e8re de s\u00e9cu<\/p>\n

L'initiative a d\u00e9but\u00e9 avec la participation d'Edmonton au Mexique lors d'une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie d'ouverture sur la place d'armes de la base navale de Manzanillo, le 28 mars. \u00c0 la suite d'une r\u00e9union de coordination entre les intervenants, le NCSM Edmonton a effectu\u00e9 des man\u0153uvres tactiques au large de la c\u00f4te de Manzanillo avec le d\u00e9tachement d'application de la loi de la Garde c\u00f4ti\u00e8re am\u00e9ricaine, le Cutter Active de la Garde c\u00f4ti\u00e8re am\u00e9ricaine et l'Armada de M\u00e9xico (ARM) Hidalgo avec son Eurocopter AS565 Panther embarqu\u00e9. Les navires ont \u00e9t\u00e9 rejoints par l'USS Savannah pour des patrouilles de nuit dans la zone, prouvant ainsi avec succ\u00e8s l'interop\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 entre quatre services distincts.<\/p>\n

Mais il n'y a pas eu que des affaires.<\/p>\n

Sous le soleil br\u00fblant de l'apr\u00e8s-midi suivant les exercices, les marins du NCSM Edmonton ont lanc\u00e9 un d\u00e9fi aux marins de la marine mexicaine pour une partie de soccer amicale, ce que les membres de l'ARM Juarez ont accept\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Pendant son d\u00e9ploiement, le navire a patrouill\u00e9 dans l'est de l'oc\u00e9an Pacifique \u00e0 l'appui de la Force op\u00e9rationnelle interagences Sud, qui est charg\u00e9e de d\u00e9tecter et de surveiller le trafic illicite de stup\u00e9fiants dans l'est du Pacifique et dans les Cara\u00efbes.<\/p>\n

Le 8 avril, le NCSM Edmonton a contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 l'interception de 755 kilogrammes de coca\u00efne - d'une valeur marchande estim\u00e9e \u00e0 49,5 millions de dollars canadiens - lors d'une patrouille au sein d'un groupe d'action de surface comprenant deux navires de la Garde c\u00f4ti\u00e8re am\u00e9ricaine et des a\u00e9ronefs de soutien. Le groupe d'action a \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7u pendant la NAMSI, et son succ\u00e8s t\u00e9moigne de l'importance de l'\u00e9tablissement de relations entre les partenaires maritimes.<\/p>\n
